Weapons of Myth
Weapons of Myth is 2D platformer where the main character finds themselves in a mythological version of early era Japan. There, they come face to face with the Eyots and must an ancient magical katana to get rid of them and save the timeline.
This project was made when attending North East Scotland College in my final year. We were given free reign create whatever we wanted within the next couple of months. I wanted to create a 2D platformer on Unity because our lessons were centered around using Unreal and I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone.
Before the start of development, I already had an idea of having weapons from different eras that don't work as intended and have them be used in a different way. The katana that the player uses in the demo can't be used multiple times in quick succession because the it doesn't have a blade until the moment it is unsheathed so the player would have to make their strikes count so they don't get hit by enemies. I also I started looking up video tutorials on the basics of Unity, how to create 2D movement, obstacles, traps, melee attacks and enemy AI. I also wanted to create most of the assets myself which was where started to learn how to do pixel art and animations.
When the I finished building the demo and submitted it, my teachers were so impressed with how I managed to learn all of these new skills and make a game with those skills in only a few months, that they nominated me for the NESCol's Go Innovate award and got a high commendation.
